ASSISTANT DIRECTOR – King Troll

Kali Theatre is looking for an Assistant Director

We are looking for an Assistant Director for our Autumn 2024 production of King Troll by Sonali Bhattacharyya – A chilling dystopian tale about the corrosive impact of state racism and the monster within two migrant sisters. (Finalist Women’s Prize for Playwriting 2023).

Director – Milli Bhatia

A co-production with New Diorama Theatre, London.

Previous experience of directing and creating new theatre work is essential.

 

Duties

Assist the Director and cast through the rehearsals and the production week in London.

Assist the Director with seeing the production into New Diorama and regional transfer venue.

Observe and report to the director as required on performances during the run at both venues.

There will also be additional opportunities for:

Devising and delivering workshops for young people on the themes of the play in conjunction with the Artistic Director of Kali Theatre.

Session with the Kali Artistic Director on leadership of a new writing company

Session with Kali’s General Manager on planning and managing a studio production

 

Dates

London Rehearsals 2 – 28 September

Production Week 30th September

First preview 4th Oct.

London Press Night tbc 7th Oct – 12th Oct

End of London duties.

Final Transfer week tbc 4th – 10th Nov

Fee  An all-inclusive bursary of £4,000 to be paid in 4 equal instalments across the placement plus travel, accommodation and per diems for transfer venue week.
