DISCOVERY 2026 BRADFORD – Applications open!

DISCOVERY BRADFORD 

Kali Theatre’s free writing programme for aspiring female and non-binary playwrights of South Asian descent is coming to Bradford’s Theatre In The Mill 

 

In the past Kali Theatre has partnered with Hampstead Theatre, Leeds Playhouse, Theatre503, London Pleasance Theatre, Oldham Coliseum Birmingham Repertory Theatre and Leicester Curve. Now they have teamed up with Bradford’s Theatre In The Mill. 

 

Selected writers receive:

  • 3 playwriting workshops led by leading female practitioners
  • Dramaturgical support to develop a short script submission into a 20-minute play
  • Rehearsal with actors and director
  • Two public performances of a staged reading as part of a public showcase for industry, friends and family
  • A small bursary towards travel expenses and childcare

 

Open to UK based women and nb writers of South Asian descent* who are eligible to live and work in the UK

 

Writers must be able to get to Bradford Theatre in The Mill for the workshops (A small bursary is available to help with travel costs).  1-1 support is provided via phone or Zoom

 

No previous writing experience is necessary.  This opportunity is for writers who have never had a full length play professionally produced.   Writers must be 18+

Discovery will be led by Director Trina Haldar, Dramaturg Atiha Sen Gupta and Theatre In The Mill Artistic Director Shabina Aslam

 

*At least one parent must be descended from the diasporas of the Indian Subcontinent

 

To apply to join Discovery please send 

  1. Approx 10mins worth of a theatre play script that is entirely your own work
  2. A separate document with approx 500 words about yourself and your experience of theatre, and why you want to join Discovery Bradford 
  3. Include confirmation that your gender and background makes you eligible to apply
